With festive seasons coming up, it's the time of the year where gifts are exchanged.  Being a crazy foodie, you and i will never complain if we're being pampered with luxurious food. But how far would you go to justify the price of food you pay??

At Augustdiners, we do it the AUGUST way.. Here are some extraordinary (out of mind, if you ask me) food with sky-high price. Most often, one could only dream.. Well, why not if dreams make you happy? =)

$2,750 sushi

The world’s most expensive sushi has been made by chef Angelito Araneta Jr, who is a Filipino chef. He has created some fancy looking sushi, all garnished with gold leaves. If the gold leaves weren’t fabulous enough for your taste buds, maybe the diamonds on top of the leaves will do it for you.
The world’s most expensive sushi is made with .20-carat “African diamonds and wrapped with a 24-karat gold leaf”—pretty spectacular, if you ask me.

This fabulously luxurious meal can be found in Manila all for the price of $2,750.

Diamond Cupcake

In honor of their 100 year anniversary Since1910, a family-owned, New York-based jewelry store has commissioned the creation of the world’s most expensive cupcake. This lavish treat costs $106,794 and is topped by a 5.48 ct round-cut, F color, Si2 clarity diamond.

The world’s most expensive cupcake comes in two flavors, vanilla or chocolate. Since1910 was founded on January 1st, 1910 and has remained under the ownership of one family since that day.

Edible Whitehouse

This year’s White House gingerbread house may appear to betray its supposed building materials, but judge not. The 350-pound Washington DC residence replica is coated completely in white chocolate. The underlying cookie construction has also been prepared with 30lbs of honey from the estate’s own beehives.

Regardless of its ostentatious appearance, the 2010 White House gingerbread house serves up the “Simple Gifts” theme throughout. Featuring handmade interior design elements including a military appreciation tree and the First Family dog, this mouthwatering monument should probably be Obama’s gift to me.

$6,100 Black Melons

Would you pay $6,100 for just one watermelon? At 17 lbs, that works out to almost $360 per lb! Well, somebody recently did in Japan. He bid and won a rare, black Densuke watermelon at an auction. According to the Associated Press (AP), this is the most expensive watermelon ever sold in Japan and is possibly a world record breaker too. Densuke watermelons are usually pricey but in the $188- $283 range.

Densuke watermelon are rare because they are only grown on the northern island of Hokkaido. The black melon was the best of the crop. According to a Japanese spokesman for the Tohma Agricultural Cooperative, what made this one special was the unusual black skin and unparalleled taste. He was quoted by AP, “It’s a watermelon, but it’s not the same.” We will have to take his word for it. Duh?!?!

 $5000 burger

As is everything in Vegas, the FleurBurger 5000 is over the top with a hefty price tag of $5,000.00.  Created by Chef Hubert Keller, the FleurBurger 5000 is served at Fleur de Lys in Mandalay Bay.  It is a Kobe burger containing foie gras, a special truffle sauce, and is served on a brioche truffle bun with black truffles on the side.

The burger is served with a bottle of Chateau Petrus 1990 poured in Ichendorf Brunello stemware (you get to keep the stemware)imported from Italy, and a certificate of authenticity will be mailed to your home so you can brag to your friends about how you spent $5000 in Vegas…on a burger.

$25,000 ice cream

A $25,000 chocolate sundae made the Guinness Book of Records today, officially earning it title for world’s most expensive dessert. If you thought the $14,500 Fortress Aquamarine dessert was outrageous, you’ll be shocked to discover there’s an even pricier calorie bomb on the New York food market.

The “Frrrozen Haute Chocolate” debuted at Serendipity-3 in New York Nov. 7, 2007, a restaurant owned by Stephen Bruce. The frozen hot chocolate was created in partnership with Euphoria New York, the luxury jeweler that supplies the serving goblets lined with edible gold as well as the 0.2 ounces of 23-karat gold sprinkled over each dessert.

The Frrrozen Haute Chocolate itself is a blend of 28 of the world’s most expensive and exotic cocoas.
“The sundae is topped with whipped cream covered with more gold and a side of La Madeline au Truffle from Knipschildt Chocolatier, which sells for $2,600 a pound,” Reuters explained.

“It is eaten with a gold spoon decorated with white and chocolate-colored diamonds, which can also be taken home.” Though some of our readers might disagree with me, I’d rather buy a new car than slurp down edible gold.

$6,485 for a bottle of champagne
Perrier-Jouet Champagne, which usually sells for $1,275 a bottle, has gotten even pricier; they’ve created a new limited edition bubbly for billionaires!
They took a bunch of sugar and wines from a special region and jugged it up and will be selling it for an outrageous $6,485 a bottle. The first bottles go on sale after a glamorous launch event at the Opera Garnier in Paris on March 20.
“The bubbly is tailor-made through the addition of a liqueur, a combination of sugar and wines from different years,” according to the International Herald Tribune.

“Buyers will also be offered an haute cuisine dinner and an overnight stay at Perrier-Jouet’s Belle-Epoque mansion in Epernay, east of Paris, that is home to 200 pieces of original modern art.”
Oh well now, doesn’t this just pop your cork?
They would prefer you buy a box set of 12 for $78,944. But with the US investment markets tanking, setting aside the box for a few years might be a wise investment - if it doesn’t turn to vinegar. Hey, there’s risk everywhere.
