Hajime probably needs no further introduction. It's one of those restaurant destine to stay for many years to come. With the high turnover of restaurant in F&B industry, im glad that this particular japanese restaurant is still growing strong. Wooden tables and chairs make the atmosphere casual and cheerful. With light japanese music playing at the background, and tiny personality of stickers on the tables, it was one environment that brings back customers again and again. From my recent visit, it seems like it has became a favourite spot for families.
The menu is extensive, from its light starters (salads, assorted sashimis) to more substantial items such as the fine inaniwa udon, or innovative sushis such as Golden Dragon, Hajime offers one of the fresher ingredients around town. They have a wide varieties of sashimis seldom seen in other japanese restaurants too.
Our only hiccup of the night is the constant mix up of food deliveries. While the service was decent and friendly, we didnt receive some of our orders as it has been sent to the wrong table (and reading from some blogs, it seems like this has been a constant problem yet to be resolved)
Started off with something light- Salmon Salad (RM22) with a slightly sourish sauce (somewhat like mayonnaise) was refreshing. You can choose between seared salmon or raw. The raw ones was pretty fresh.
Definitely worth ordering- and also in its seasonal menu is the Shake Bomb (RM12/pc) Salmon & foie gras with truffle oil. Every bite was delicious. Just close your eyes and devour slowly with each bite while waiting for different flavours to explode in your mouth. *yummay*
Sashimi Moriawase (Hana) (RM100) - mackeral, tuna, shrimps, belly salmon, squid sashimis etc sitting on a bed of crushed ice. Nice food presentation and the ice helps to keep the sashimis cool. The few that i tried was fresh enough.
I love this dish. Inaniwa Udon (Cold) served with dashi sauce. (RM26). Much like how you eat cold soba, by putting the kuey teow-like noodles into the dashi sauce mixed with a bit of spring onions, preserved tunips and wasabi. Again the ice sitting underneath the noodles help to keep the dish cool, and the noodles texture is silky. It was an addictive eat, i couldnt get enough of it.
Executed well, the batter was crisp and not too thick. The Ebi tempura (RM28) came out piping hot and crispy, one portion came with 4 pieces of prawns
Black Spider Maki (RM20) - Crispy soft shell crab with caviar was decent, but not memorable.
Reservation would be advisable as it was pretty pack for a weekday.
Our bill came up to RM250 between two without alcohol.
